What if the alarm goes off and I just cannot wake?
What if I stay in bed, defying daybreak?
What if Sprite doesn't like her morning pancake?
What if she refuses to dress, just for toddler's sake?
What if once out, the van just won't start?
What if already, my day falls apart?
What if I turn left instead of a right?
What if I blank and run the red light?
What if my coffee stop takes way too long?
What if it makes my day start out wrong?
What if I leave that decision to fate?
What if fate decides that today I be late?
What if my boss is in a bad mood?
What if I respond with my own attitude?
What if the work is more than I can take?
What if my fragile resolve starts to break?
What if 5PM can't come soon enough?
What if bearing down becomes just too tough?
(Or what if I act sick, and my boss calls my bluff?)
What if traffic snarls and won't reach an end?
What if Sprite doesn't like the snack I recommend?
What if once home, I then burn our meal?
What if I decide that I just can't deal?
What if at bedtime, she refuses to sleep?
What if she pushes my buttons too deep?
The daily what if's that cause me to worry,
Can sometimes make my coherence turn blurry.
So, as I lay down and shut off the light,
The last What If comes up,
What if I can't sleep tonight?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Next week's assigment will be even more hard,
We want you to channel your innermost Bard.
That's right, a poem, a stanza, a prose,
And if you want to make it rhyme, you can, I suppose.
We're looking for poetry, we're looking for thought,
Feeling is mandatory! Rhyming is not.
And if this is something you just cannot do,
You can post a poem that's important to you.
(Just remember to give credit to where it is due!)
Remember, you have seven days to get those poems in,
Until next Friday, keep those thoughts set on Spin! (Cycle, that is...)
FIRST!!!!! Love your poem!! If you run through the red light will you pull yourself over again?
I'm back to spinning yes, it's true, I can't wait to post my poem for you!!
Just because you are creative doesn't mean that the rest of us are!!!!
Awesome Spin, I loved it!
Obviously you didn't see my last comment, or you wouldn't be stressed out about Sprite if she doesn't want to get dressed. Money talks... kids listen.
Well done... Poetry eh? Hmmm... I'll have to think about that one.
Great poem! You should be able to have a collection soon. Let me know when it publishes ;)
Mine is up, btw. http://h31n0us.blogspot.com/2009/01/spin-cycle-what-if.html
Well we know that next week won't be too tough for YOU!
Sprite's Keeper will rhyme and rhyme till she's blue!
Posted by: HeatherPride | January 16, 2009 at 10:16 AM
Ahh, your "what if's" seem very toddler-themed. My days are spent on toddler what if's so I feel for you. Stressing over it all day and then not being able to sleep is terrible, I've been there too. Great spin, as usual. And next week? Ack. I'm not a poet and I definitely know it.
Posted by: Casey | January 16, 2009 at 10:19 AM
Thanks for not forgetting about me!We've been crazy busy lately. The holidays went by in a flash. And we found out that we'll be adding another bundle of energetic joy to our family in August! Things have been alittle crazy. Hopefully soon I'll find some time to update everyone on my blog. And I love you what ifs! I feel the same way, that's why it makes me crazy that my husband can fall asleep before his head hits the pillow.
Great poem. As it so happens, I am studying poetry in ALL THREE of my English classes this semester, and my professor announced yesterday that next week in class we are to compose our own ballads.
I might just need to get in on this spin cycle action, because it seems so clearly divinely inspired.
What do I do? Just post and send the link to you?
LOVED it!!! Great Spin woman!
Posted by: Kirst | January 16, 2009 at 12:30 PM
My dear Jen, I am torn here. I love it when you post poems. You are a master. I, however, cannot compose one to save my life. You've got me here. I've got to figure something out to post because I'm bound and determined to start spinning again this week.
And, promises, promises...I am mailing your package out this weekend.Definitely. I've got it packed up and everything and just sitting in my office waiting to take to the post office. Please forgive me for my extreme tardiness. I'm absolutely embarassed!
Even if it kills me through and through!!
Oh - I did the What If Spin, too! Over at http://fingersandpaws.blogspot.com. I saw it at K's blog and had to give my Spin! Wasn't sure how it worked, though, sorry I'm late.
Ok, I'm late. But it's my first time.
Last weeks spin can be found at truebluetexan.blogspot.com.
