(but barely.
I have a lot of things to sift through before I can post about the party. I need to get through the mess, the clean up, and the aftermath of the dogs' PTSD, which may have a direct correlation to the amount of children in our home at any given time today.)
So, I give you something else, because anything new from me at this time would not only be unfair to you, but harmful to the blogosphere as a whole. I figure I am saving lives today by NOT posting what happened yesterday until I stop searching for survivors.)
Dear Sprite,
I am so sorry we weren't able to take you to the wedding with us tonight. I know you wanted to be a part of the festivities, however the ceremony would have started at your bedtime and you wouldn't have been able to enjoy yourself.
Suffice it to say, we didn't have a good time without you. We thought about you all night and how we would much rather be with our little girl than spending the evening making small talk with a bunch of adults, not a fan of Elmo among them.
Your daddy and I had to work hard to smile, we were so glum without our angel.
The wedding was boring anyway. There was no music,
no dancing,
and the worst part? No cake!
I couldn't work up the facial muscles for a self portrait like I normally do when I'm happy.
Even your Nana was miserable. The poor woman kept dissolving into tears, so we tried to keep her hydrated.
Everyone in the family talked about you all night, which made us even more wishful that we were playing the "No Nite-nite!" cry and whine game instead of being handed a couple of free hours to wax nostalgic on those completely forgettable child free days.
Fortunately, we were able to cut the night short and race back to your side, vowing never to be apart from you again all for a a couple hundred minutes of (halfhearted) merriment. In fact, your Nana and Poppa had to drive since your daddy and I were so worried about you.
I promise, sweetie. It will never happen again.
I love you so much,
Mommy

Glad to hear you survived the party, even if it's just barely. That wedding sounds tough and unbearable, I'm surprised you made it through the night without rushing home to check on poor Sprite! :) Looks like a fun time,I won't tell Sprite if you don't..

I can't wait to hear about the bday party. Know that I am applauding your courage and strength in your wedding sacrifice - you look remarkably beautiful and happy but I won't tell Sprite, either ;-) And if you tell me that gorgeousness was after a 2yo bday party, I may have to throw something thru this computer screen!

BTW, I'm doing my HASAY rounds but I'm excluding you since I'm sure chasing all of those toddlers yesterday burned a ton of calories. How about John, did he help chase too or should I heckle him?

Wondering how the birthday party went too, but looks like you had TONS of fun at the wedding. You guys look great.

You don't look like you had any fun at ALL. How could you have fun without that annoying, high-pitched little red monster? Unpossible, I say.

I feel your pain. We always turn down offers of free babysitting as it is too painful for us to be away from our children for an evening. We DO NOT toss them at any and all willing babysitters and then skip off together, singing merrily.
Must dash. His majesty bellows.

This is hilarious. We snuck out for dinner last night and had similar experiences. Life without the short ones just isn't worth living, is it? ;)

I think I know who the baby shower was for the other day.

WOW you look GREAT!! I'm sure Sprite was having a miserable time without you too, you should post about how she was on a magical adventure with Elmo in her dreams..lol As always a

I'm glad you survived the party. When the screaming in your head dies down I'll be interested in how it went.
It does my heart good to see that Nana was taken care of. Sprite would want it that way.
Very funny!

Looks like it was a great night! You looked beautiful and I'm so glad you had a horrible time without Sprite. Have a relaxing Sunday! :)

HA! She might buy it someday if you lose the pictures! That was funny, Jen!
Does Sprite get a party of her own this month?

LOL! Yeah, sign me up for the 'waiting for the party dish', that post is going to be classic. I can tell.
Sorry the wedding was a bust - your letter to Sprite is very consoling ;).

Hi! New, well, not quite new, rather I'm delurking.
Your self sacrifice is worthy on sainthood... really!
Posted by: Anndi | November 16, 2008 at 03:21 PM
ahahahahaha! That was great. We snuck out yesterday without the small ones and the guilt and exhiliaration mixed together in quite a heady combination. Funny how that works!

How dare you have fun while Sprite is left home (not alone)!!!!
;)

my favorite picture is nana staying "hydrated".
i must go "hydrate" myself now.
it's been a LONG night, and it's not yet over.
Posted by: jen | November 16, 2008 at 09:28 PM
Wow, a night out without your precious child. It sounds delightful...I mean tragic, terribly tragic. I could use some hydrating myself.

What a fun evening! You look beautiful. Your dance face is much, much better than mine. Sorry I missed this earlier. I've been trying to lay low on the weekends. Now I'm off to see how your HASAY is going. If your title to the post is any indicator, I suspect it might not be so well.

You poor, poor people. The suffering you put yourselves through.
Posted by: Jim | November 17, 2008 at 12:29 PM
Yeah, you poor miserable kids. It's hard to see pictures of people in such agony. I'm sure you will never be able to leave your little girl behind again. ;)
