Is there some kind of managerial secret in corporations that layoffs happen on a Tuesday?
I used to like Tuesdays.
John called me today and gave me the news. There were no tears. Not like last time. His company is battening down its hatches, weeding out the newer staff, becoming stingy with the older staff, cutting back to the core. John was one of their casualties.
I hate that this is happening to him. John is one of the nicest guys in the IT field. Customers love him. Co-workers like that he's easy to talk to. He just happened to be one of the newer staff members, and sometimes the pool needs to be skimmed, and a lily pad may get swept up with the debris.
Last October, he was let go from a company in which he had grown to love everyone around him. He befriended much of the staff and still keeps in touch with his old boss to this day. He and I cried the day he was told about the layoff and we were saddened with the fact that he would no longer see these people on a daily basis and continue with the projects he had found so much joy in. He was upset, but determined to find something immediately, his inspiration and drive powered by the love for his little girl.
Everyone, including his old boss, rallied around him and he was hired by the current ex-flame within days of packing his desk.
Things looked promising at the new place, but the economy being the way it has been and stormy skies still ahead, the new guys always finish last and are always cut first.
I'm not thinking ahead of this week. I'm not thinking ahead of tonight.
I'm going to go pick up my daughter from day care, bring her home to her daddy whose biggest fear is that he's somehow letting his princess down, and try to remember that God will somehow open the next door.
I believe in Him. I believe in John.
I used to like Tuesdays.

OK folks, time to get another $100K job, there are thousands posted so dont be shy.

Thanks for the info, Kyle. I don't believe I've ever heard of simply hired. I just let John know. He's already got his resume updated and has applied for several opportunities in our area. I'm freaking proud of his determination and know he will come out of this better than he went in.

John is not the kind of guy who will sit anfd cry about this.... He will hit the pavement running. You have a keeper! We know he will come out on top .

Awww sorry to hear about Jon's job, lately we've been on our tippy toes because there's been a lot of hiring and firing at hubbys work (mostly firing). So far so good but I don't want to tempt fate. I really believe it has a lot to do with this poor economy we have right now, all the price increases etc... I'll pray he finds a good job soon if he hasn't already. Good Luck!

Thanks all for your support - things are looking well. I have an interview set up for tomorrow!
And I've applied at a number of other firms. Search results are low, but match closely to what I'm looking for. I won't let this affect my Girls!
