"Sprite, slow down!"
In her hurry, she trips over her feet and falls, her head smacking against the doorjamb.
Thunk.
That must hurt. Heck, my head hurts just seeing it.
Her eyes are closed and she is clenching internally, about to unleash the cries of fury.
John is closer so he picks her up and nestles her into his arms as she lets her wails loose.
"It's okay, honey. You'll be fine," John croons, patting her head soothingly as his left foot comes up and kicks the doorjamb.
Um. Did I just see that?
"Did you just kick the doorjamb?"
John looks at me over Srite's head. "No. What are you talking about?"
"I just saw you kick the doorjamb."
John's face is still blank. "No,I didn't."
I'm smiling now. "Yes, you did. You picked her up and kicked the doorjamb."
He's thinking about it. "I don't remember doing that...Did I?"
I keep smiling.
Sprite is feeling better now and onto her next adventure, completely unaware that her hero took a stab at the door dragon, always on the lookout for his princess.

Ah, that's too cute. Sometimes we yell, "Bad door! Don't you hurt my Pipsqueak!"

Of course he kicked it! It's never the kid's fault if they fall down. That wall / door / doorjam must have moved.
