Kid's birthday parties are always for the parents. And I see no problem with that.

Hi -- great post about first birthday parties. We had a huge one for our daughter, and it was all for us. She hadn't a clue what was going on. Not sure what we'll do for our second child.

I had similar thoughts / issues behind my daughter's first birthday. I'm an only child, she's an only child - my only family close by were my folks. So - nothing really kid related - but a great reason for a BBQ and more pictures than you could ever need. She'll be 8 this year, and the parties have been getting easier and easier - and smaller and smaller. I love it.
